Hotel
Description:
This tropical island retreat is located on a 240 acre privately owned
island. The resort is the only thing on the island. There are no cars,
no roads, no villages, and no rush. Forming a horseshoe shape around an
extinct volcanic crater, with a dramatic elevation, Matangi offers secluded
white beaches, spectacular tropical gardens and vast turquoise waters.
With only 14 bures, the resort never has more than 28 guests. Scuba diving
at Matangi is effortless. The experienced dive masters have been diving
these waters for many years and know when and where to take divers so
they can have that unique Fiji scuba dive experience in the "soft coral
capital of the world". The island hosts a variety of topical fruits such
as papayas, pineapples, bananas, avocados, mangoes, lemons and limes.
Local vegetables such as breadfruit, taro, and a variety of other homegrown
vegetables make their way on to your salad and dinner plates. Matangi
Island Resort is truly a family run operation as the island has been the
Douglas family home for five generations. If privacy is what you enjoy,
you can spend a romantic day in Horseshoe Bay on your own deserted tropical
beach where you can picnic, snorkel and relax. The beach is yours for
the day!
Accommodations:
14 intimate traditional Fijian style bures are tucked between the island
cliffs and the aquamarine waters of Fiji's Tasman Straits. When you arrival
you will scarcely notice the resort's bures hidden among the many trees
and gardens along the beach. There is a central resort area where the
dining bure and activities center is located. Each bure has a deck facing
the ocean, bedroom/sitting area with queen or king size bed, ceiling fan
and a large separate bath. Units have a mini-refrigerator and tea/coffee
maker.
4
Standard Bures - These bures were some of the first ever
built at the resort. Three of these units offer a dividing wall offering
separation between the bedroom and the sitting area. Ideal for guests
seeking separate, more private sleeping arrangements.
7
Deluxe Bures - These bures are larger than the standard
units and offer a king size bed.
3
Treehouse Bures - Perched 30 feet above the ground amongst
the Pacific Almond Trees these units offer an amazing view. The large
living and bedroom areas are comfortable and very private. Two of the
treehouses feature outdoor, river-rock showers. Their large verandahs
have fantastic views to the beach and ocean beyond where you can watch
spectacular Fijian sunsets. These bures are not only great for a honeymoon
getaway, but are ideal for that special anniversary, birthday or simply
a romantic retreat.
Restaurant:
The traditional Fijian lali drum announces the meal service. Meals are
service from the Dining Bure. The kitchen prepares a variety of styles
of cuisine including European, American Indian, Chinese and Fijian. Buffet
meals are occasionally served and may include a Fijian night.
Facilities:
Internet, telephone, fax services, PADI dive center, babysitting services,
boutique and an "over the water bar", great for an evening cocktail and
watching a spectacular sunset!
Activities
- complimentary:
Snorkeling, sailing, windsurfing, sea kayaks, hiking and volleyball.
Activities
with cost:

Diving:

experts consider the northern are of Fiji to be some of best diving in
the world and Matangi is right in the middle of it. Most dive sites are
within 20 minutes by boat. The current that predominate in this region
are what supply the nutrients to the exquisite soft corals for which the
north of Fiji is famous. Dive staff picks the day's dive sites based on
the tidal flow. PADI and S.S.I. Certification courses are offered at the
